President Rodrigo Duterte delivers the much-anticipated 1st State of the Nation Address (SONA) that officials claimed would stir the patriotic feelings of every Filipino live at Batasang Pambansa on July 25, 2016. Duterte himself wrote the address, which is expected to last for about 38 minutes long. The Palace official said that Duterte’s speech “will awaken the patriot in every Filipino.”

About 3,000 invitations have been sent for the SONA that will be attended by top politicians, diplomats, and former presidents, except former president Benigno Aquino III.

He is expected to mention his legislative agenda which could include the need to amend the Constitution to give way to federalism and to reinstate the death penalty for heinous crimes. All guests for the SONA are then expected to start arriving in the early afternoon because they are required to be inside the plenary hall by 3 pm.
